Xī bān yá jiān dàn
Dishes: Spanish omelet, Mediterranean salad, “Pantumaca”

Dadaocheng area is known for its dense concentration of shophouses where regional goods, Chinese medicines, candies and dry food provide the passerby with an attractive and characteristic mixing of delicate aromas, textures and colors. We conceived the “Xī bān yá jiān dàn” aiming to provide one of the oldest and most traditional neighborhoods of Taipei city with another sensory layer for a couple of hours. We also thought that this activity could bring unexpected social interactions…
Principles of the “Xī bān yá jiān dàn”:
1. Preparing the ingredients facing the street so that there is a certain exchange between the URS activity and the passerby
2. Conveying certain Spanish atmosphere through the projection of films and some Spanish music selected for the event.
3. The complicity of the shared task, everybody is peeling, cutting, chopping at the same time. There is a list of people taking part in the activity from the beginning, these are the cooks. The number of people joining the activity spontaneously is opened.
What happened? It wasn’t easy to connect with people in the neighborhood. In the evening there are not many non-residents in this section of Dihua Street and the projections and music did not seem to connect with the residents. It might be interesting for next time to go out to the street and offer our omelets!
